5 Tricks That Get Your Long-Distance Boyfriend to Call You

Sometimes, it’s an unavoidable fact of life that you have to live apart from your loved one. Regardless of the reason, it’s not easy to maintain a long-distance relationship if he doesn’t contact you regularly. Unfortunately, men are generally lazy about picking up the phone, and women are often left behind, wondering what’s going on. We gathered women who are currently in long-distant relationships and asked them to share some of the tricks they use that prompt their boyfriends to call them.

  • 1. “I feel so lonely…”

You don’t need to cook up any elaborate schemes if you just want to tell him how you feel. When the distance between the two of you was created by his job assignment, he was already feeling guilty about putting you in a less-than-desirable situation. To make amends, he’ll try to call you as frequently as he can. Still, don’t forget that there’s not much he can do about the current living arrangements, and you don’t need to put added pressure on him. You should express your feelings sparingly, and only when you really need to hear his voice.

  • 2. “How about a phone call?”

Sometimes, a little light-hearted teasing will pack more punches than whining will. If he’s the type to read between the lines, he’ll notice that you are masking your loneliness behind your teasing. You’ll be surprised how quickly he can pick up a phone when he’s not pressured into doing so. Be careful, however. Repeated teasing will eventually start to sound like you’re whining. The key is to make it sound as casual as possible so that he won’t feel as though it’s a hassle or a bother to contact you.

  • 3. “You must be so busy. Are you doing okay?”

If you ask him how he’s doing, he’s likely to respond to you. Specific questions, such as “How’s your project going?” or “Are you looking after yourself?” will prompt him to reply “I’m doing okay, what about you?” Nevertheless, if he’s swamped at work, you may not hear from him right away. If that’s the case, don’t rush him. Have patience, and show some understanding for his occasional silence.

  • 4. “I saw your favorite soccer team on TV.”

Send a message about his favorite topic and see if he’ll respond. The fact is that men feel clueless and don’t know what to say about a topic in which they’re not particularly interested. On the contrary, if you bring up a topic that he feels passionate about, he’ll be more than willing to engage in a conversation. “I saw it on TV” or “I heard that your company released a new model” will definitely prod him to respond. Be prepared, however! He may come back with a technical response, and you’ll need to maintain your interest in the topic.

  • 5. “I just wanted to hear your voice. That’s all.”

Tell him that you don’t have any particular reason—all you wanted was to hear his voice. Then, end the call. He’ll be left wondering if there’s more to your mysterious phone call than you let on. You’ll hear back from him almost immediately, guaranteed! Besides, hearing your voice on the phone may make him homesick. He’ll find comfort in listening to the familiar voice on the other side of the phone.
